On the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, the United States Senate has approved a resolution to honor the 29 crew members who lost their lives in the disaster. The shipwreck occurred during one of the most severe storms ever recorded on the Great Lakes.

U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) cosponsored the resolution along with Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.). In a statement, Senator Young said, “Fifty years ago, the SS Edmund Fitzgerald sank in the Great Lakes, tragically ending the lives of all onboard. Our resolution honors those who were tragically lost and reaffirms our commitment to the safety of America’s maritime workforce.”

The full text of the resolution is available online.
