U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) has voted in favor of a Senate bill designed to end the ongoing federal government shutdown, which has lasted 40 days. The legislation includes a continuing resolution to reopen the government until January 30, 2026, as well as full-year appropriations for Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, and the Legislative Branch. This measure is intended to provide Congress with more time to finalize funding for other federal agencies.

In a statement following his vote, Young said: “Over the past 40 days, I have said over and over again that Hoosiers didn’t send me to Congress to shut down the government. I am frustrated that this shutdown has dragged on this long and negatively affected our country in so many ways. I am grateful for all of the dedicated federal workers, such as our service members and air traffic controllers, who continued to work throughout the shutdown. I urge my colleagues in the House to pass this bill and get it to President Trump’s desk to be signed into law. It’s time to get back to work on all of the important issues facing our country.”

The Senate approved the bill with a vote of 60-40. The legislation will now move to the House of Representatives for consideration; if passed there, it will proceed to President Trump for signature.

Senator Young had previously supported efforts to end the shutdown by voting 15 times for similar funding bills over six weeks; however, earlier attempts were blocked by Senate Democrats.
