The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence has approved the Intelligence Authorization Act (IAA) for Fiscal Year 2026, according to a statement released by U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.), who serves as a committee member.
Senator Young commented on the significance of the legislation, stating: “As the United States faces increasingly integrated global adversaries and non-state threats, I am proud to advance critical legislation that will empower our Intelligence Community to aggressively combat these threats and help keep America secure. This legislation will provide the Intelligence Community with the tools and talent necessary to keep our country safe. I am encouraged that this bill addresses threats to the American defense, industrial, agricultural, and health sectors. It also includes a number of provisions that will enable the U.S. to maintain its leadership in biotech innovation, defense, and economic resilience.”
The act authorizes funding for intelligence activities, grants legal authorities needed by intelligence agencies, and increases oversight over their operations.
Senator Young was involved in securing several provisions included in the version of the bill passed by committee.
The legislation now moves forward for consideration by the full Senate. The complete text of the Intelligence Authorization Act is available online.
