Legislation introduced by Representative Victoria Spartz to rename the U.S. Post Office in Elwood, Indiana, after fallen police officer Noah Jacob Shahnavaz has been approved by the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill now moves to the Senate for further consideration.

"While we can never fully repay Noah and his family, the renaming of the Elwood Post Office after his name will serve as a lasting reminder of his ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms," stated Rep. Spartz. "I want to thank my House colleagues for their support in honoring this true American hero."

Officer Noah Jacob Shahnavaz was a dedicated member of the Elwood Police Department in Indiana. Born in Indianapolis in 1998, he showed leadership and a passion for service from an early age. After graduating from Fishers High School in 2016, he joined the U.S. Army and served as a Sergeant with the 591st Military Police Company, deploying to the Middle East during the Global War on Terror.

His fellow soldiers described him as "everything you’d want in a police officer; every attribute, every characteristic." After his military service, Shahnavaz joined law enforcement with the Elwood Police Department in 2021. He quickly earned respect for his calm demeanor and dedication to community safety.

Tragically, Officer Shahnavaz's life ended on July 31, 2022, when he was ambushed and fatally shot during a routine traffic stop by a repeat offender previously convicted of shooting at police officers.

Throughout his career, Officer Shahnavaz exemplified service and sacrifice both in military and civilian roles. His commitment to public service earned admiration from those who knew him.
