Spartz Honors Vietnam War Veteran

Muncie, IN – Rep. Victoria Spartz (IN-05) paid tribute to Vietnam War veteran Roy Springfield by presenting him with two military awards: the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.

Mr. Springfield, an Army sergeant who served in the Vietnam War, demonstrated exceptional bravery by rescuing an American flag as he was leaving his base. This same flag was proudly displayed during the awards ceremony, surrounded by Mr. Springfield's friends and family members.

In recognition of his service and sacrifice, Rep. Spartz expressed her gratitude, stating, "It was my privilege to present Mr. Springfield with two important awards honoring his service and sacrifice for our nation. I am so grateful for Roy's bravery and humbled to express our appreciation on behalf of the American people, even if 61 years later."

The National Defense Service Medal, one of the awards bestowed upon Mr. Springfield, is given to individuals who have served honorably in the United States Armed Forces. It recognizes their active military service as members of the armed forces.

The second award, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, is presented to members of the United States armed services who have participated in a military operation and encountered opposition from foreign armed forces or were in danger of hostile action by such forces.

Mr. Springfield's actions during the Vietnam War exemplify the bravery and dedication of our nation's servicemen and women. By securing the American flag and protecting it from enemy hands, he symbolized the unwavering spirit and commitment of the American military.
