U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.), who serves as Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Surface Transportation, Freight, Pipelines, and Safety, was recently featured in an Investigate TV report that focused on the rising problem of cargo theft across the United States.
The report discussed the increase in cargo theft incidents and their effects on supply chains throughout the country. It also covered efforts by Congress to collaborate with industry leaders and government agencies to address these issues. One such effort is the Combating Organized Retail Crime Act.
Senator Young worked alongside Senators Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) to introduce this legislation. The bill aims to create a coordinated response among multiple agencies and offer new tools for dealing with changing trends in organized retail and cargo theft.
Young also led a subcommittee hearing in February called “Grand Theft Cargo: Examining the Costly Threat to Consumers and the U.S. Supply Chain.”
"Cargo theft poses a serious risk to our economy and national security," Young said during his appearance in the report. "Congress must work closely with partners across sectors to stay ahead of evolving threats."
