U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) welcomed U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to southwest Indiana for a tour and briefing on the I-69 Ohio River Crossing bridge project. The event in Evansville included Indiana Governor Mike Braun, Congressman James Comer (R-KY-01), Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY-06), Congressman Mark Messmer (R-IN-08), Congressman Jefferson Shreve (R-IN-06), Indiana Secretary of Transportation Matthew Ubelhor, Kentucky Secretary of Transportation Jim Gray, and other local officials.

The group received updates on the progress of the bridge project and participated in an aerial tour to observe ongoing construction activities.

Senator Young stated, “We appreciate Secretary Duffy taking the time to join stakeholders from Indiana and Kentucky for a tour of the I-69 Ohio River Crossing project. Once completed, this new corridor will enhance the connection between Indiana and Kentucky and unlock significant economic benefits for southwest Indiana. Completing this project is a major priority of mine, and I look forward to continued collaboration with the U.S. Department of Transportation.”

Young has advocated for federal funding to support completion of the I-69 Ohio River Crossing, which aims to close a key gap in national transportation infrastructure by linking Interstate 69 between Indiana and Kentucky over the Ohio River. The finished corridor is expected to improve regional connectivity and provide new opportunities for southwest Indiana.

During Secretary Duffy’s confirmation process, Senator Young highlighted the importance of the I-69 bridge project for Indiana. At that time, Duffy committed to visiting Evansville to learn more about it. A video from Duffy’s confirmation hearing showing that exchange is available here.
