Senator Todd Young, a Republican representing Indiana, used his social media platform in early September 2025 to advocate for legislative action on biotechnology and naval shipbuilding. In a series of posts, Young highlighted what he sees as urgent priorities for maintaining U.S. competitiveness.

On September 3, 2025, Young commented on international developments involving Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin: "This hot-mic moment between Xi and Putin supports what I’ve long been saying - the United States MUST lead in biotechnology. Congress should pass the recommendations proposed by @biotech_gov to secure American dominance in biotech."

Later that day, Young addressed concerns about America's maritime industry: “Congress has unfinished business regarding naval shipbuilding.” Let’s pass the SHIPS for America Act to revive America’s maritime industry and ensure China doesn’t dominate this sector.

The following day, he acknowledged recognition from the Navy League of the United States for his efforts alongside Senator Mark Kelly: "Appreciated the @NavyLeagueUS recognizing my work with @SenMarkKelly to restore America’s maritime dominance. It’s time to pass the SHIPS for America Act through Congress."

Calls for strengthening U.S. leadership in biotechnology have grown amid concerns over global competition and security risks posed by advances in other countries. Similarly, bipartisan efforts have focused on revitalizing American shipbuilding capabilities as a response to China's expanding naval presence.

Young's advocacy reflects ongoing debates within Congress about how best to address these challenges through legislation such as recommendations from federal biotechnology agencies and proposals like the SHIPS for America Act.
