Staff Spotlight: Music Teacher Steps Up to Drive for CCS

Smoky Row music teacher, Mr. Southard, is the newest Carmel Clay Schools bus driver! He is finishing his first week in his expanded role and is enjoying the new opportunity to connect further with his students.

"Transportation has been wonderful," Mr. Southard said. "They assigned me two routes in the morning and two in the afternoon, and all are for my own school here in Smoky Row."

Principal Mrs. Jay was not surprised to see Mr. Southard step up to drive. "Because of the nature of his schedule, he is able to keep up with responsibilities and be present for students," explained Mrs. Jay. "The transportation department is able to find sub drivers to help support his schedule when, for example, Mr. Southard sponsors our ORFF afterschool club."

Mr. Southard is also enjoying the larger paycheck he receives with the added role. "With three kids who are getting older and involved in more activities, the bump in pay was a large part of deciding to drive."

Carmel Clay Schools is appreciative of our entire transportation team, veteran drivers and our newest additions! If you are a current CCS employee or wish to join our team, please contact our HR department to learn more about how you can drive for the district.
