These lectures will provide in-depth education into the seasonally related topics below, led by our naturalist staff through a PowerPoint program. The programs are geared toward young adults and adults, and intended to expand our citizens' knowledge of the life and passive recreation opportunities in Hamilton County and our state!

Prairies - Exploring Prairie Habitat and Our Connections to Them
Join use for an evening presentation about prairies, Indiana’s history related to them, and their ecological benefits, followed by a stroll in the prairie restoration area located in front of the nature center. We will be taking a brief hike pointing out several iconic species, discussing their identification, ecological merits, and historical uses through history.

Monarchs - Life-history and Decline
This presentation will discuss the amazing lifecycle, habitat, and migration of the monarch butterfly. We will also explore the perils these insects face and the factors in their precipitous decline over the last few decades, focusing on the things we can do in our own yards and communities that help not only them, but other insects experiencing declining populations.

Fall Woodland Wildfllowers
Spring wildflowers get the bulk of attention, but there are many gorgeous flowers that bloom in the late summer and early fall! We will discuss the various species common in the forests of central Indiana, provide tips on identification, their role in the ecosystem, which ones can be added to the home landscape, and interesting historical uses of the past. The lecture will conclude with a brief hike into the woods surrounding the nature center.

Sustainability Practices at Home
Many of us are looking to adopt more “green” practices at home. This lecture will present some simple things we can do around
the house to cut energy consumption, reduce costs, and make our landscapes more ecologically beneficial. These simple changes
will help the planet while providing us with more peace of mind!
